"butt hurts"???

Ok, I know im gonna get alot of "ask his doctor", ( and i will of course) but we all know sometimes we need advice from other moms who deal with kids firsthand. so i need an answer...

My son, for about a week now, has been saying "my butt hurts" He is 2, and cant describe to me what "hurts". He can say its not the "cheeks" but towards his anus. Ive done a lot of looking every time he says it, and its never red, not like he's been itching, or a rash is occurring. And he never itches it, at least ive never seen him do it. Anyone know what it might be? I thought it was constipation, but... lets just say its NOT :) Anything??

Right after i wrote this, he told me again, and he seems to be comforted by using a wipe and having me put cream on that area, i use Butt Paste...

  • Is he constipated. That would be my first thought. When he has a stoll are they soft? If the stoll is to dry(hard) it hurts. How often is he moving his bowels?

  • I would say he's constipated...try getting him to drink some undiluted apple juice or he may even eat some prunes.

  • Is he potty trained, or in diapers? If there's poop there, it can be irritating his skin, which can be really painful. If he's trained, make sure you wipe well (use baby wipes if that's what it takes). If he's in diapers, be sure to change them right away after a poop and wipe very well.

  • Honestly I would have him checked for pin worms.
