Black Widow

We just purchased our first house and it was a foreclosure. We're not really sure how long its been vacant but we're guessing at least more than 6months! We were cleaning the garage out today and we found a black widow! (First one I've ever seen!) My question is... If there is one, does that mean there is a lot more on the property, hidden? Where are their normal spots to be? How do you kill them? THANKS!!!!!!

  • I would call a local exterminator to find out or google it. I am sure if there is one, there is probably others.

  • Okay...there may or may not be others on the property. They like dark places, like under rock, in crevices... You can bug bomb the place. Just be careful when moving things. Their webs aren't the pretty typical spider web....they look more like cobwebs in corners, under edges of wood at siding, etc.

  • They are just like other spiders and love hiding. Smashing them is how I have always killed them.

Try not to be freaked out...but do get some expert advice as there are likely more. They are fairly common.
