Did Italy Offer Asylum and Job to Pakistani Christian Woman Sentenced to Death For Blasphemy?

(ANSA) – Italy is ready to offer asylum and a job to a Christian woman sentenced to death in Pakistan for derogatory remarks about the Prophet Mohammed, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said Thursday.

“If she were freed, and we hope so, Italy is ready to offer her a job (here),” Frattini said.

Asia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother of five, was sentenced to death by hanging on November 8 under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws but her supporters are hopeful President Asif Ali Zardari will grant her clemency.

Earlier this month, during a visit to Islamabad, Frattini pressed for Bibi’s case to be reopened during talks on alleged discrimination against Pakistan’s four million Christians.

Frattini said afterwards: “Perhaps we have saved her”. Frattini added that he had received a “commitment” from Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani to have the country’s blasphemy laws changed.

Bibi is the first woman to get the death penalty in Pakistan for blasphemy.

In July two Christian brothers were shot under the blasphemy laws.

  • i would hope that things aren't going to rebound and stay neutrally on the shoulders of the ungrounded, and unfaithful
"leaders''', obviously they aren't too informed that God is forgiving as .....they are NOT. We are grounded that when believe and by our our faith through the word of the bible that these people aren't going to endure any wrath that are going to be raised from the dead, if they are killed for the , :blasphemy:
One who is an atheist or just a killer by nature has to consider his own end. He will be part of the second death, the resurrection to eternal death.

  • By many accts this woman is not guilty of what her accusers proclaim. Another sad ex. of Christian persecution. This woman will be in my prayers & thoughts. The Italian Foreign Minister has offered compassion as Jesus would. We can hope n' pray those responsible for her freedom will be touched w/ compassion for her~
