Has anyone gotten insurance from the state of IL but had to pay a premium?

My kids got approved for the state medical card but my husband and I didnt....they wanted $80.00 a month plus co pays..I always thought it was free..guess my man makes too much. The kids are going to be on his insurance starting January 1st.

  • That's cheap for two people. My state wants $300 just for me.

  • Have you tried CHP where you live?

  • I live in NJ, we have state insurance and yes we have a premium!! Not all plans are free and I know many states have made the poverty line lower due to budget cuts. But the premium we pay is MUCH cheaper then any private insurance, the copays are better and most prescriptions are covered. And in most cases, state insurances are better to have because I know in NJ, a DR cannot bill you for any services. They must accept the ins. company's payment as full payment and we have no deductibles.
