Is it ok to freeze a big ham?

  • Yep definitely! And you do not need to slice it up if you do not want to.. especially if it has a bone or you are saving it for a special occasion.

  • It's best to freeze large items in smaller portions, because longer freezing and thawing times can promote bacteria growth and cause crystalization of the moisture inside the product which decreases quality. However, if you have a deep freezer that would help somewhat.

  • I would slice it into steaks before freezing it and thenheat them in a skillet as youneed them. If you plan to cook the whole ham at once, I would probablly cut it in half so it can freeze and thaw better.

  • definitely. but if i get one of those i cut it up into chunks or slices or something first, because i do not ever need to cook a whole ham at once - i can just pull out one chunk or whatever for each meal i use it for.
