When taking naps does your child pee their pants and how do you correct it?

I have a 3 yr old SS who has peed the bed. Its a normal thing during the night and we are trying to work on that and need advice for that too. But, today when taking a nap he peed himself and just laid there and didn't bother to get up. What are things you do to help correct it?

  • You don't "correct" that. It is absolutely normal for male children to wet their selves when they sleep sometimes up until puberty.
First things first, you limit liquids 30 minutes before naptime. Then make sure he goes to the bathroom before he goes down to nap. And it isn't that he just lays there and doesn't bother to get up....he may not realize it happened and sleeps right it.
Do not punish him for something he cannot control. Just change the bed sheets, wipe down the mattress cover (plastic sheet), put clean sheets and clothes on and wash everything.

  • Have a rubber or plastic pad under him. It is something he will have to grow out of. It can take a long time and the less attention given to it the better.

  • I agree with twinsplus2more.. You may also want to put him in pull-ups for nap/bed time. We did this with our boys.

  • Accidents happen. If he does not urinate before he goes down for a nap then put a diaper on him. He's only 3!

  • When did the pull-up for him it seemed to work in reverse he would pee them instead of his underwear. He always goes to the bathroom before he lays down for nap/bedtime.

  • I'd stay away from the pull ups. They seem to set kids back. I'd just put a water proof cover on the bed for now. Keep working with him. This is normal.

  • Mine didn't. Since he already goes potty before naptime, I would reccomend waking him up during to go potty. Also- does he have this problem at night or just during nap time? If it's not at night maybe moving nap time to a different time of day might work.

  • No he does tend to pee himself during the night. But again the pull-ups were setting us back.

  • My son will be four in Feb.....He is JUST NOW not having accidents while he naps. We limit what he has to drink before nap time....we did a sticker chart for him. He loved it....after five stars he got some type of reward. He is way 30 stars now....we told him at 30 no more pull far so good! He's hasn't had an accident at nightime or naptime for a long time!

  • My niece still has pullups on her youngest (age 5) at night. Staying dry at night varies and some children are 8 or older before it happens. Let him use the pullups at nighttime.
