What is the purpose of 'bumping', as opposed to just not posting an answer?

  • I bump without answering if I cannot provide an help the poster get more helpful responses. There's been many of my questions that slip through the cracks and never get answered because they fall to the bottom of the list.

  • People dump their bumps in order to get their credit sometimes.

  • When you bump a question, it's meant to help other people see it. There's a tab for "recently bumped" questions that some people go to, and also, immediately after you bump it, it goes in the little highlighted box in the middle of each page on Answers and stays there until another question is bumped. It's just a way for you to help a post get a little more attention, IE if someone needs some help or is sharing a thought you find to be worthy of spreading.
