How much clothing do you buy your children? How many times a year?

Do you buy more for your kids than you had as a child? It occurs to me that I buy my kids two pairs of shoes and four outfits three times a year: birthdays, back to school, and Christmas. I have no idea what is average because I got new clothes once a year and it wasn't nearly as much as I buy. So how much do you buy?

  • School, summer, birthday and christmas I buy them clothes, then after that only when need, if needed.

I am great with Hand me downs, my kids have tons of clothes. I have 3 girls so they get passed down, mainly dresses, jeans, coats and shoes.... :)

  • Well mine grows fairly fast, so I buy her new clothes and shoes when her old ones don't fit any more.

  • As needed I guess. So about 2 a year as the season change. The youngest usually just inherits the oldest (5) cloths, she is only 3. But shoes can be 2-3 times a year depending.

  • I am bad...I love to shop for my kids especially clothes! I usually buy clothes when they outgrow theirs of course or when I see something on sale!!

  • We don't really buy him clothes as gifts (though other people do). We buy them as he outgrows the old stuff. I also got him some stuff on Black Friday. I buy whatever he needs. He really only has one pair of shoes, because they're all he'll wear. Buying more is a waste, because they just sit.

  • As a kid we got clothes once a year. Basically whenever my parents had the money to buy us more then just a couple of outfits.
I only buy my kids clothing when they grow out of a majority of their wardrobe. We were fortunate enough to be given a entire wardrobe for our some from infant to 3T from my Aunt. He's getting to the end of his collection, so it'll be time soon to buy new clothes for him. My daughter didn't have anyone really to hand down clothing to her, so she's getting to the end of what we were given. It'll be time soon to buy new clothes for her as well. When it comes time when we're out of the hand me down clothing we'll buy them clothes only as often as they need them. Which I suspect will be about once a year.

  • We buy clothes and shoes when they are needed. As our kids out grow their things or wear them out, they get new ones. We do buy shoes seasonally - usually new dress shoes around Easter and Christmas and sneakers in the fall.

  • My kids are growing so I buy summer clothes and winter clothes. I also buy them a few outfits to start school. The rest is as needed

  • I inherit clothes for my daughter from two older cousins, so we at least get a ton of playclothes. I buy her three or four pairs of shoes whenever she outgrows what she has, make sure she has winter boots, a snowsuit and cold-weather jacket (sometimes we inherit these, sometimes I have to buy them,) underwear, socks, sleeping clothes for each season, and I buy her a few really cute outfits each season.

  • For back to school I get them LOTS of stuff, they are usualy good till the new year, then I buy a few cute outfits as the winter sales hit, then a few outfits in the spring, and a few in the summer. Meanwhile there are some clothes they can still wear from the beggining of the year, or the year before(rarly) Shoes I buy several times a year. Then whenever I see something cute, I will get it.
