school concert

so, our schools music teacher is putting on a musical concert for the holidays. the invitation for the parents included many symbols, but not a christian symbol. do you find this odd? with the inclusion of 5 symbols, why not a christian symbol?

  • Because Christianity seems to be a big no-no these days. It's too "offensive".

  • What other symbols are there?

Honestly, I most likely wouldn't notice til someone pointed it out...

  • Was there a Christmas tree? I would think of that as a Christian symbol... Unless it was a religious school I would think a baby Jesus would not be appropriate.

  • Chances are they weren't meant to be "religious symbols" but "holiday symbols."

  • dh noticed it, not me...but there was a dradel, something with oriental writing, a pinata i think.
    no baby jesus though.

  • because it would probably piss someone off, but the other symbols wouldn't.

  • Who knows? I'd hope it wasn't intentional.

  • It probably wasn't intentional. My DH is a band teacher and he just randomly searches for "holiday" clip art and puts it on. The programs and invitations are usually pretty low on his "things to worry about before a concert" list. :) I am sure no harm was meant by it.

  • hmm first 5 symbols i would think of would include something Christmas/Christian related...but it was probably a simple oversight. having worked with school choir instructors the program is the last thing on their minds and often they dont even make them.

my 5 symbols woulda been Santa or a big star, a Dreidel, a Kinara, a Jullbock (which is probably the Pinata looking thing) or an evergreen wreath/tree, and a snowman. that would cover most all winter holidays i would think.

  • I would think in an attempt to not alienate anti-religious folk, they excluded baby jesus..I mean, when you think about it, a random baby would be a little awkward and a nativity scene isn't exactly the smallest clip art.
