What would you take on a flight for a 5 year old?

I am flying with my son for Christmas. We haven't flown since he was two. I am not sure what to take to keep him entertained and keep him from driving everyone else on the plance crazy. LOL! Any suggestions would be helpful!

  • A V-Smile or a Leapster! They are not the typical violent hand held games that kids get their hands on. My son plays with his all the time. It keeps his attention and he learns a lot from it!

  • Take a DVD player (lighter than computer) with favorite movies, a couple of interactive books. paper and pen or workbook, and a favorite toy. Make sure you have finger snacks you can buy at the restaurant before boarding e.g apple slices, healthy chips etc. and juice - don't rely on the airplane to supply enough snacks. He can carry the lighter stuff in his own personal backpack. Make sure the toys aren't loud to disturb other passengers.

  • a loooonnngg time ago, we took our five year old and three year old to my kids are all grown up 19 and 17 but the looks we got when we borded the plane was priceless....give some benedryl so the pressure in the cabin don't hurt your child's ears and that will make him sleepy and probably will sleep through the trip, if you are against the use of benedryl, bring his favorite blanket, snacks, books, etc. you will have a fine time
