A co-worker gave notice that she needs to attend a funeral of a the passing of a member from her synagoge - that the funeral was arranged with less than 24 hour notice, is that a common practice within the faith?

  • Yes. Usually they are buried in 24 hours.

  • Funerals are generally done within 24 hours because they do not belive in embalming the body. They belive in "ashes to ashes and dust to dust". Embalming does not allow for that.

  • Yeah, in Judaism a person is buried ASAP, if possible within a few hours, not even a day. My grandfather passed away at around noon and he was buried at 5:00 p.m that very day.
