HOw do you clean an osilating box fan?

There is no way to open it (that I can see and the vaccume attachment doesn't get much of the dust. The slots are too small for a rag or a swifter so do I just use q-tips?

  • my carbon foot print is enormous..... if I had a box fan I'd donate it and buy a new one. We're talking about $10 here for something that to clean properly could take all day.

  • there are not screws? many of them you have to unscrew or they just have tabs that you pull apart

  • I unscrew the cover and wipe the blades with a paper towel and windex. The covers should either unscrew or pop off.

  • All the ones I've ever owned I was always able to take the protective panel off and clean the blades. Swiffer dusters are really thin. Maybe try one of those?

  • Get online and go to the Manufacturer's site. Find the manual for it at their site or call their Customer Service

  • The slots are less than an inch wide & long. The manufactor's page tells me to return it for servicing, but that's in Taiwan and the one bolt I can see is stripped. The thing works fine so I don't want to get rid of it...

  • Take out the screws to remove the safety plates and wipe off the blades.

  • Why not take it out back and hose it down really good?
