First Ultrasound

I will be calling my OB on Monday to set up an appt. as I have taken 3 pregnancy tests since yesterday and they are all positive.
I m/c at 12 1/2 weeks back in June so she wants to closely monitor me this time. With a normal pregnancy, I wasn't due to have my first U/S until 13 weeks (which I missed by just days) but wondering if there are any of you who have had a closely monitored or high risk pregnancy, then when did you have your first U/S?

  • Around here, the first is usually scheduled between 8 and 10 wks. I had an emergency one at 5wks because of spotting. This is my second pregnancy and they're considering it risky (not high risk, but not normal either because I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy) but the first one wasn't scheduled until 8wks this time around. GL!

  • Im 11 weeks and I just had my first ultrasound yesterday. If you request one, they may allow it, depending on your insurance situation. If you are high risk, they will probably want to do one anyway.

  • That is encouraging. I know she won't wait until 13 weeks for my 1st one this time :) Best wishes to you too!

  • I had all my pregnancies confirmed via ultarsound at 5-6 weeks. insist they check your hormone levels. Low progesterone can cause a miscarriage and it is easily supplemented. I recommend injectable progesterone if you can get it. I'd avoid suppository form as they tend to leak. BUT only if your hormones are low. I am high risk so I was monitored closely. I saw my OB every week. not sure if that will be you though. Congrats!!!

  • Thanks! I am definitely asking about my hormone levels being monitored (I don't know what caused my first m/c as it happened at home and then I went to the ER b/c of the pain I was still having; once they did an U/S the next morning, there was an empty sac so they don't know if I 'ever' had a fetus at all or if it was a natural m/c so I def. want to be monitored more closely this time).

  • Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers. I had a MC and an Ectopic pregnancy before I finally had a healthy pregnancy/baby. I know how stressfull it can be. If you are having spotting then I would demand HCG(horomone) testing too, otherwise they can tell alot by the ultrasound. I had ultrasounds at 4,5,6, 12,and 20 weeks with my last healthy pregnancy. They didnt see the heartbeat until 6 weeks, thats why I had 3 really early.

  • my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage (@7wks) so for my oldest and youngest I didn't even call my OB until I was 8wks. I had my u/s with them at 11w5d and 11w1d. With my 2nd I felt super sick and very tired so I called at 6wks and had my u/s with him at 9w5d. HTH's

  • I m'c my first pregnancy at 12 1/2 weeks. My OB is scheduling my first U/S in 2 1/2 more weeks which would make me approx. 6 weeks along; this is to confirm that the baby is actually implanted in my uterus and that there is a heartbeat. We are praying that this little one makes it and that we have a healthy 9 months!
