  • Generally, I would think of myself as a freethinker in that I think decisions should be made based on science, logic, and reason. I do practice Buddhism, but most Buddhists would say that if something they believed was proven to be false, they would abandon it. So, science and reason generally have no conflict with this practice. As a pantheist, I also reject abandoning science, logic, and reason as well.

As an example--even the Dalai Lama thinks Buddhism does not conflict with science:
"Carl Sagan asked the Dalai Lama what would he do if a fundamental tenet of his religion (reincarnation) were definitively disproved by science. The Dalai Lama answered; "if science can disprove reincarnation, Tibetan Buddhism would abandon reincarnation..."

  • Statistically, there's sure to be some, but they may not be Q&A readers. If you're really looking - try a group search, too.

  • hmm, by the definition you've given i would consider myself a free thinker, unless one must come to the conclusion that there is no higher power. then im not a free thinker.

and definitely if you use this definition "a person who believes that God created the universe and then abandoned it"
