Oatmeal Cookie recipe

Does anyone have a simple recipe for CHEWY oatmeal cookies?

  • Preheat oven to 350. Combine 3 cups oats, 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon salt (optional), and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Set aside. Beat together until creamy 3/4 cup shortening, 1 cup brown sugar - packed, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1/4 cup water, 1 teaspoon vanilla . Add dry ingredients and mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 12 minutes only.
    I have not made these in awhile and I would cut that salt in half if I were making it today. Hope you like them. It's an old recipe that we love.
