Question about breastmilk.

A non CM friend of mom wants to know if she can now freeze a container of breastmilk she had sitting in the fridge for about 4hrs.

  • Yep!! As long as it was fresh put in the fridge not previously frozen. No re-freezing.

  • yep...she can decide to freeze it after it's been in the fridge for up to 72 hours...tell her to check out this link.  I like this resource and also this one.

  • Milk needs to be frozen within 12 hours (some sources say 72 though) of pumping so 4 hours in the fridge is fine. I used to pump at work all day and freeze it when I got home. No refreezing thawed milk though it must be freshly pumped within the last 12 hours.

  • Yep, but I would put it in a breastmilk storage bag so she can get all the air out of it. Otherwise it will get freezer burn.
