getting toddlers to drink when sick ...

Any advice on getting my 18 month old to drink ANYTHING after he's been throwing up on and off for 5 days?! He will take 1 or 2 sips of ice water, but won't drink any juice or anything more than a sip or 2 ... his diapers have been fairly dry now for way too long ... call in to the dr, waiting for a response. Please give me your momma tips!! Thanks

  • Popsicle. they have fluids and he should eat them even if sick.

  • Have you tried popsicles? Or even some pedialite? Even if he just sips the pedialite it has enough electrolytes in it to help keep him hydrated. If he won't take any of that then I would call your pediatrician. Hope your baby gets better soon!

  • Yes, get some Pedialyte popsicles. They have additional electrolytes, salts etc. - much better than water or juice for rehydrating.

  • I agree with popsicles. I've even done jello water. Try maybe a medicine dropper and squirt some liquids in his mouth. Or a spoon.

  • popsicles, pedialyte, juice, even jello (which turns to liquid later and will hydrate him)

  • Well when my daughter was very sick, she had a 103. fever, I gave her Ginger Ale with some water just so it did not have so may bubbles in it. She did drink it. I did not even care as long as she would drink. The doctor said whatever to get her to drink. I know when I am sick I do not want milk ect. Hope he feels better soon!!!
