is it ok to mix old with new breast milk?

im only making about 20 mls of milk at a time my question is if i pump and store in the morning then pump in the afternoon can i add that to the milk from the morning of the same day?? also another question is it safe to milk breast milk with formula? thanks

  • You can mix it but i would only mix at the time of feeding. For example, you pump in the morning you get 20, you pump in the afternoon you pump 20 again these need to be seperate while being stored in the fridge and then mixed right before consumption.

    As for the bm and formula I wouldn't sugest mixing only because you dont wasnt to waste any of it. Fix the bm bottle and then a seperate formula bottle so if he/she wants more you know they have finished all the bm.

  • If they are the same temp you can combine from the same day only, so if you pump in the AM refridgerate it, then pump in the PM you have to chill that first before combining. You can not add to frozen milk until it is thawed.

    Don't put BM with formula or anything that is not finished will be thrown away, no wasting BM!!! Its liquid gold

    Remember BM bottles never need to be over 4-5 oz and most need only 2-3 oz.
