my 4 y/o dd has a little blood in her urine, frequent urination and kind of like a burning sensation, all urinary tract infection "symptoms"....this is not the 1st time this has happened & every time before i've taken her to the doctor and they tested her for a uti and it came back negative..i'm waiting on the nurse to call back but does anyone else have A CLUE about what this could be!?

  • Hmm just typed a super long answer and it disappeared so here is the gist of it

DD had a similar problem about a year ago and was on medication for a UTI for about three months poor baby. Some solutions we had to help her become more comfortable and hopefully help fix it were switching from toliet paper to the Pull Ups brand flushable wipes, making sure all her undies had white crotch lining in them, no bubble baths and even having her stand up in the bath tub starting the min. we started washing her body/hair so that way NO soap/dirty water could irritate her areas. We also switched laundry detergents, stopped drying her clothes and line dried them.

You could also keep an eye on her and make sure she isnt exploring her own body while she is playing in her room, that is common for children around this age (maybe it is a little younger but I know it is close)

Good luck, it is a scary situation!

  • wow that has me puzzled.....if its not UTI then what else would it be? im confused on this one....i dont want to sound harsh or assume anything but has she been around men who are questionable? blood in her urine isnt good,im not assuming anything but i am curious to know what this issue might be caused by.....when you find out let us know IF you dont mind....if you dont want anyone to know thats fine too....i will understand....i hope she is ok and that its nothing serious.....good luck and make sure you get all the info you need....i will pray for her....

  • no, she is with me 24/7 and i haven't done anything to her it is so weird b/c it happens from time to time with her but it's never a uti or kidney infection :/

  • Oh yeah! and the Johnsons brand skin protectant that you would use for diaper rash helped ease her discomfort most of the time if she was uncomfortable - if nothing else it helped her to know we were trying to make things all better

  • If she doesn't have an UTI, could it be a skin irritation issue? Maybe a reaction to a change in laundry or bath soap or something? I hate to put your DD through any trauma but maybe your or a nurse could do a visual exam of her private areas, just to see if there is any surface damage? Maybe a sharp fingernail & she scratched herself while wiping? Good luck--I hope you get it figured out.

  • are you sure it's in her urine and not on her gentiles? She may be scratching herself or have started masturbating?
    Worth looking into...

  • last time it was irritation she was 3 and learning how to wipe herself it's been going on and off since she started potty training at 2 and she's 4 now....have to say though she is better. i don't give her bubble baths, bathe her in the baby's soap (aveeno), no lotions, white undies only...and i use all free and clear on all our clothes b/c ds and i have eczema ..thanks for the concern and suggestions :)

  • A kidney infection can cause the same symptoms.
