  • No one really knows for sure, but people have made various educated guesses based on archaeology and the Bible.

Based on archaeology, assimilation of pagan traditions into Christian tradition, and the Bible, I would guess that it was not actually on December 25th, and also likely that it was not even in the winter because the shepherds were out. I don't think I can guess a specific date, but I think it's within a certain time frame. Most likely it was sometime between March and October during the years of 3-7 BCE/BC.

  • It doesn't. but the shepherds were in the fields with the sheep so it wasn't winter for sure. I believe there are other clues as well. It never gives a date.

  • I always thought he was born at Christmas but since coming to CafeMom I have learned that he was born either in Spring or Fall. I don't think anyone can ever know for sure because obviously none of us were there.

  • But it doesn't snow in Bethlehem so what difference does it make that the sheep were in the fields?
