  • not unless it was in a medical office or lab, i'm a phlebotomist and i wouldn't want to draw blood from my kids for any reason

  • At home??
No. It's not medically necessary if he just WANTS you to do it.
Now if he needed it drawn for testing purposes and he wanted his mother to do, fine.

  • Yes, I am a phlebotomist...My son wants me to do it. He has learned a lot about blood since I have gone through my schooling and is very interested in it. I have done a "fingerstick" on him with a microtube and he thinks how it works is neat. I would never be able to draw his blood in a medical office unless I were employed by it. If he were at his Doctor and needed it done, It is illegal for me to do it because I am not on the companys insurance if something were to go wrong.

  • I think it would be messed up if you have no medicle reason.

  • I would. I mean, if I can hit a vein in an ancient, dying cat, surely I could hit one on a healthy 5-year-old;-)

  • I would not draw his blood. All you need is for him to go to school crowing about his mother drawing his blood at home, right? So, if he truly has a big interest, I would get him some human body books, and possibly take him to work with you one day to show him what you do and how everything works. Drawing his blood at home is just not wise.
