Can you buy bags of fruit (like apples, oranges, etc.) with WIC?

I know that's probably a stupid question, but I couldn't find anything in my pamphlet thing about it. Does it vary by state?

  • Yes you can. I bought a box of oranges with a wic check. As long as its under the amount, it's fine

  • In Wisconsin you can if fresh fruits and vegetables are listed on your WIC checks. In Wisconsin you get a specific amount of money to spend on fresh fruits and veggies...usually $6 or $10 a month or coupon.

  • That's how it is in VA, too. They just say fresh fruit/veggies and the amount. You can't get stuff like dried fruits, baskets, etc., but it doesn't say about bags.
