  • I did once. My son & I were in the dollar store & he wanted one. He was about 4. I said "Are you sure?" He said "Yes!". So we got a black barbie. That's what he picked. He played with it till the parts started coming off (which didnt take too long; that's how those dollar store ones are). He's 16 now...and yes, he does "manly" stuff. Having a black barbie for a bit when he was 4 didn't scar him for life. lol
On the flip side, if your daughter wanted a dump truck or some hot wheels would you get them? What's the difference there?

  • Considering the fact that I refuse to buy my daughter a Barbie...... I don't see myself buying my son one either! LOL

  • Sure, I have 2 boys and they were welcome to play with any girl or boy toy- I work in a day care and my toddlers (boys) love to play with the babies and barbie dolls- it teaches them to be caring and it's fun!

  • If it was the number one thing on his list, then maybe. So far in the past 16 yrs son has never asked for a Barbie.

  • My husband would throw a fit, but if my son REALLY wanted one it would probably be a bit awkward but I'd get him one. I'm not going to tell him he can't do anything because he's a boy, just like nobody would tell their daughter she can't do anything because she's a girl. I doubt many people would have as much of a problem buying their little girl a GI Joe. What's the difference?

  • My brother had one when he was young. No harm done.

  • If he really wanted one, sure.

  • If he really wanted one. I have a couple of old barbies that were mine when I was a kid and sometimes my boys pick them up and play with them. I don't think it is a big deal.
