OK so why would you buy your daughter an action figure but not buy your son a Barbie?

  • My sons play with whatever tickles their fancy, and having an older sister they're as likely to come up to me dressed as a fairy princess, nursing a baby as they are to play with their 'boy' toys... likewise, my daughters favorite toys when she was small were her earth movers & tractors... Oh, and monster trucks! The kid loved to play outside in the dirt, go fishing, climb trees... heck, she still does!

  • I don't like barbie for boys or girls.
My sister had bratz, which was odd enough

  • Well, maybe I'm answering the same question twice, but I can understand why a mom wouldn't want to give her daughter a barbie. I don't have girls, yet, so haven't faced this one. It's disturbing enough how much exposure young girls get to sexuality and unrealistic body image, and the lifetime they (we) go through trying to measure up. Barbie is the epitome of that, so no wonder women don't want to introduce their little girls to it.

I have a boy and a girl, and the same thing happens in our house... LOL! My DH hates that my son will play with dolls, but I told him that there is nothing wrong with our son learning how to be a good daddy.

  • EEhhhh...if it would make him happy............why not? I just "love" how all the little girl toys are washing machines, kitchens, ironing boards and vacuums.............sexism starts at day one it seems...........not in my house.
