Do siblings receive gifts on the birthday child's special day too?

Do siblings receive gifts as well as the birthday child on their special day in your household, or do you purchase gifts only for the birthday child?

  • I think children each need their own special day. When my boys were little I would talk to them about the birthdays. "This is your brothers birthday, let's make it special for him. On your birthday you'll get presents because we'll be celebrating the day you were born!"
Sometimes it's hard for little ones, but it's an important lesson to learn that they have to let other people have the spotlight sometimes.

  • My family sometimes will buy for the siblings.. but I don't. I think only the birthday child should get a gift.

  • Just the b-day child. I't won't be as special to them if everyone else is getting attention and gifts also. It's their day, let them enjoy it.

  • I would just do the birthday child. The other kids would get cake and ice cream ya know?

I only have one child, but that's how I would do it. They each would have their own special day, so why do the others need to get something too?
