Can anyone tell me what the probability of two people without cleft chins have a child with a cleft chin?

  • I'm not sure how probable it is, but both my parents don't have a cleft and I do.

  • It's a recessive gene, cleanaturalady is correct. Anyone, anywhere in your family tree, could have had one and YOU could have passed it on, or the father could have passed it on. Neither me, nor my ex, have cleft chins, but my son was born with one. Turns out HIS grandfather and MY grandfather both had one so, the gene is there.
