Do you purchase a gift for you parents?

I never see my parents on Holidays so I never get them anything. Am I a horrible child? My mother lives 800 miles away and my father about 1 hour.
Do you get your parents gifts even if they are far away? For birthday's, holidays, Mothers' and Fathers' days?

  • Always. We were stationed far away from family off and on for years. We never considered not sending gifts for holiday and birthdays.

  • Yes, always. This is the first year that we probably won't be together on Christmas, but we have always sent gifts for birthdays and Christmas if we aren't able to be together. I know that my parents felt horrible when my brother moved out and didn't send even a card for Christmas or birthdays.

  • We lived WITH my dad and still didn't get him gifts. We only buy for our kids and, if we have extra money, for my friends' kids (usually just gift cards). At the most we got my dad a frame with the kids' pictures in it and it was from the kids (about $10). My dad would be ticked if we spent anything more on him. One year we bought him a cheap DVD player (for $50) and he threw a fit. We also don't buy for my husband's mother or any other adults, not even for each other (for holidays or birthdays). My birthday is on Monday and I expect nothing from anybody. At most I get dinner out at some point in the week (my husband will be working 16 hours on my birthday). I also won't get anything for Christmas.
