TRANSITIONING MY SON INTO A NEW HOME

IM A MOM OF A 3 YEAR OLD BOY AND I JUST GOT ENGAGED AND HE HAS A 2 YEAR OLD BOY, WHEN WE FIRST DATED MY SON WOULD SHOW LOTS OF JEALOUSY AND AS TIME WENT ON HE ADJUSTED AND THE JEALOUSY SUBSIDED. NOW THAT IM ENGAGED ARE WE ARE PLANNIGN TO MOVE IN TOGETHER, IM NERVOUS ON THE TRANSITION OF MOVING HIM IN WITH MY FIANCE. HOW SHOULD I PREPARE HIM SO THAT ITS EASY ON HIM.

  • Make it fun for him by maybe letting him pick out new bed sheets, curtains, etc. Also take him to look at the new place, talk about where he will sleep, point out nice things about the neighborhood. If it's a new town tell him you can check out the library's story hour, etc.

  • Make sure that he has a space for himself. Especially if he doesn't have his own room. He will need a place to go to be alone, play with his toys, and just think about things. Also, make sure that both you and your fiancee spend time with each of the boys individually and that you do things as a family so that neither one feels that the other is preferred over them.
