Counting Calories

Did you ever notice that when you count calories, you're SO MUCH MORE disciplined? I wish I could work out right now, but my knee is seriously bothering me. So I'm being super strict on my food for a few days until my knee feels better.

  • The only time I counted calories was just after I got married. I hated feeling so... I don't know, it just didn't feel healthy to me to focus so much on the calories. I felt like it took the joy out of eating. Then again, I'm part Italian. LOL! I finally gave it up. Lately, though, what I've found works much better is simply cutting out sweets. I pretty much stopped eating anything with added sugar, except maybe once a week. I didn't cut back on any of the other fattening foods. I started steadily losing about a pound every 2 weeks (without exercising). I know it doesn't seem like much, but I felt better, and in about 6 weeks I was fitting back in my old clothes. Apparently, this approach really takes down the tummy fat. I have a friend who's been doing this very strictly and has lost 23 pounds from her belly (along with working out). I like it because I can still eat the other stuff I like, and not exercise religiously.

  • Well, sweets are not a weakness of mine, so that's not an issue. Like you, I'm italian and we also eat a lot of hispanic food which can also be very fattening. So, I'm counting calories which makes me more disciplined with not only how much I eat, but what I eat. No cheese or anything with cream. My weakness is salty foods!! lol

  • I've never counted calories, but I imagine if you are conscientious about what you eat, yeah you'd be more disciplined.

  • I end up feeling crazy when I count calories...too much work. Instead I just work on portion control and eat real food and limit processed foods. 65lbs down doing it this way.
