Can I use allspice in place of ground cloves?

I'm making pumpkin bread. I have nutmeg and allspice, but no cloves. And my car is "out of order" or I would just go get some.

  • Do you have any 'pumpkin pie seasoning'? That would be better to substitute for all the spices in one. I personally would not use allspice in place of cloves.

  • I put allspice in my pumpkin bread and pies but I use cloves too. It's just going to give you a different flavor since they are different spices.

  • Okay..well...food.com says 3/4 tsp ground cloves can be sustituted with allspice. Give it a try. Maybe it is more that I don't care for allspice. Go for it.

  • You can, but it won't taste the same.

  • Go ahead. I always leave out the cloves in sweetbreads.
