Do they just not get it, or do they just not care?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/10/AR2010121005657.html?hpid=topnews

As President Obama, his deficit commission and a bevy of lawmakers urge a concerted push to streamline the federal tax system, Senate leaders have rolled out a sprawling $858 billion tax bill stuffed with dozens of narrow credits and special-interest perks - the very breaks that much of Washington agrees should be banished from the code.

The final package, released late Thursday, would extend tax credits for producing ethanol and for hiring American Indians. It would maintain deductions for teachers who buy their own supplies and businesses that donate books to charity.

It has tax breaks for restaurants, movie producers and NASCAR track owners. It has a special "economic development credit" for investors in American Samoa.

These are the type of things that are going to keep growing the Tea Party Movement.

  • This is disgusting. One more reason for Republicans to wait for January and then do what is right. Just pass the single item bill identical to the Bush Tax cuts and dare Obama to veto it. This haggling crap is what bloats these bills and costs Americans so much money. It's true about these things growing Tea Party attitudes in America but I want to know why we have not heard much from these soon to be Conservative players in congress.

  • Even Al Gore has admitted that ethanol was bad policy. No they do not get it, they are the most out of touch group to even inhabit Washington. Yes it will spawn more tea party activity.

  • You can't grab at the three to five good things in the bill and expect us to lay down on the rest of it. This is such a common theme anymore.

People object to the bad parts of legislation and then get told they are blocking the good. Seriously? Can't you see the bad?

  • Tax cut's do not cost us anything. You don't LOSE money you don't have to begin with. You spend within your means with what you have.

  • tossing in a few good ideas (like teacher deductions) doesn't make the bad ideas disappear

  • Can you say stupid? When I can deduct the hundreds of dollars of supplies I have paid for then we will consider them being able to deduct what they buy.

  • I wish that they'd scale back all spending and increase revenue- until they do BOTH of those actions, our country will not be on the right track to deficit reduction. Unless, EVERYONE is willing to take a hit, do without and pay more to the bottom line, NO ONE has taken the problem seriously or really wants a solution to the problem. The NASCAR track owner, welfare mother, Senator, Billionaire and most mothers on CM are ALL the same. The solutions are fine, as long as I am NOT affected and my pocketbook does not take a hit...words mean nothing ACTIONS are what counts, solves problems and pays down deficits.

EVERYONE has a reason why the solutions should not affect them.....EVERYONE- AND THAT'S PART OF THE PROBLEM.
