WYR receive cold, hard cash or a gift card you didn't really want?

This sounds greedy but I think I'd rather get five bucks than thirty on a gift card to some place I don't like. You?

PS: I felt this way about my gift registry. I would have rather gotten one fork than a bowl someone picked out on their own.

  • One year my in-laws gave us $100 in gift cards that were all regifted. One set was for a movie theater that we didn't have in our town and the closest one was 250 miles away. One was for $50 for the sharper image, the next week we went to use them online and sharper image had just gone declared bankruptcy and the gift cards were no longer being accepted. The only one worth using was a $25 gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond.

I know they were regifted, because they had just come from the big family gathering with MIL's family and that is where they have a Sharper Image store and that theater. Oh well!

So I would rather receive cash.

  • Well if as in sleepingbeautee case, the gift cards were useless, then definitely the cash. But if was a store I didn't care for but could find something then probably the gift card. Cash usually goes towards bills, even if meant as a gift. With the gift card I would at least buy myself something.
