Would you hold stock in a company that you personally disagreed with?

Such as a coal mine (if a family member got cancer from it), or say a tobacco company if you felt strongly about smoking?

  • I did have stock in RJ Reynolds and made money on it, but then I felt bad every time I saw a statement, because my son smokes and I worry about his health, so I sold it. I put the money i made in his daughter's college account. So I guess it just depends on how you feel about it. I think peace of mind is more important than making a profit at this point.

  • If it was going to go up and I'd make money, probably yes. I know, terrible but think of all the pharma drugs people have stock in and half the time they kill people.

  • I don't smoke and think it's a nasty habit, but if someone wanted to give me stock in a tobacco company I wouldn't turn it down. I get the consequences of public smokers (second hand smoke) so I would be happy to get some benefit from it too.
