  • RSV is like a common cold but it is bad when babies get it because their airways are smaller and get clogged with all the mucus. If you baby appears lethargic, stops eating or is very wheezy and having trouble breath go to the ER. Looks for blue tinges around baby's mouth when she coughs. The only thing they can do at the hospital is put her on an IV for fluids and give her oxygen to help her breath. If you keep her hydrated and she is breathing well I wouldn't worry about it.
My daughter was two weeks old when she got RSV and we spent 5 days in the hospital with oxygen and IV fluids. Lucky your baby is bigger so is less likely to needs help. Try sitting in a steamy bathroom to help break up the mucus and keep pushing breastmilk (or formula)! Use saline drops and suction the mucus out of her nose. You can use saline every 15 mins if you want.
    Good Luck mama..*hugs*

  • You don't say how old this baby is, but I would somehow someway find a way to get the baby to the Dr. You can't just let this child get sicker.

  • Does the baby have a fever. Can you open up the congestion. Use steam. How old is baby?

  • You can't tell if a baby has RSV unless they swab for it. It looks just like a really bad cold. I dealt with it with my semi preemie boy. If your child doesn't have a fever, I'd do all the regular things to keep airways clear. If baby's coloring is good, no blue lips etc. It can probably wait, unless your baby was a preemie. Count the breaths per minute to see if they are high too.
