Civil political debate group?

Is there one on CM? I enjoy political discussion but I'm interested in finding common ground and hearing other people's views expressed in a civilized way - i.e. no name calling, no bashing the other party, etc. Can anyone recommend a group?

Most conservatives would call me a liberal, but I view myself as a moderate.

  • I would love to find a section where we could debate politics--actually debate, and not have it reduced to some schoolyard-type brawl. If we could stick to the topics and refrain from name-calling and character-assassination, and actually debate issues. . . I'd be one for that.

I don't come to this section much anymore because it's full of those school-yard type antics--the most frequent posters on here aren't interested in debating anything, just in being right and bullying those who have different opinions.  That's not my style, and I don't want to be dragged into those kinds of arguments, so I've been avoiding them.

  • Ahhh, no. There is no such thing. Politics is just to much of a hot button issue. There will always be some ass who will start something.

  • Good luck with this. If you find one let me know. I haven't found much civility on here when it comes to anything controversial.

  • Good luck finding one that's civil. I mean the pce group is alright but there are definitely some mean women in there... Even moderates get bashed on cm. They can't seem to understand that we don't lean.

  • common ground is the new word for compromise. I'm not into compromises.

  • That's what I thought. It is really disturbing that no one can even agree to disagree - or believe that certain people even have a right to exist in this country. I'm not surprised - so much hate-mongering, paranoid media feeding the frenzy. I thought it was worth asking!
