  • I'm not going to take on BELIEFS----but, scientificly, the reason is that,--- as we grow older our cells deteriorate faster than they are naturally replaced.

  • According to the Bible, death was not God's intention for us. However, because of Adam and Eve's refusal to accept His authority and our own tendency to selfishness, death is a consequence that is actually a blessing. Can you imagine the world if Nero was still living? Hitler? Stalin? Death is a check to our propensity to evil.
It's also a gift in that :a. it makes us question our purpose in life, b. forces us to consider more than our immediate pleasure, c. points us in the direction of God. and eternity.
I also know that Jesus was upset by Lazarus's death, even though He knew He would raise him up from the dead and give him more years of life. That tells me that God Himself identifies with our pain at losing those we love and at losing life itself. I am so glad He made it possible for us to live eternally with Him.

  • I would agree with butterflyblue19 on this one. I think our soul continues to another body and gives us a chance to grow and become better.

  • Because we're mortal, because the earth thrives off of constant change and the cycle of life and death/creation and destruction, because this life is merely a stepping stone...

  • We come to Earth only for a short while to learn about humility, compassion and love, then we go home.

  • well we are composed of chemical elements in various combinations. each element has a specific half life, as does each compound, As soon as they form they begin to breakdown to a more "stable" element. Thus it is only a matter of time before we (being living organisms comprised of these elements and compounds) cease to function and breakdown.

  • Because we are mortal and our bodies eventually break down or some idiot breaks it for us(aka murder).
