  • You're taking exactly what you should. But how are you gauging your supply? Pumping isn't accurate. There are moms who can nurse twins but not even get as much as you are from the pump! Is baby on the breast? Are you changing dipes? What pump, used when? All of these things can make a difference.

  • Oatmeal and malted milk are supposed to help too. Also, stay away from sage.

  • The amount you can pump is not an indication of your supply. Suction is used by babies to stop milk running into their ears, not to extract food. For that, the necessary action is jaw compression.

To most closely mimic that (if you can't just latch the baby on more often, the number one method of increasing supply) you'll benefit from learning the manual expression technique described here: http://lllrochester.weebly.com/marmet-technique-of-manual-expression.html

The massage instructions will make the most difference to how much you can extract, but manual is much more effective than pumping, once the correct technique is learned. It takes a bit of practice, but it is amazing.

  • im going thru re-lactation right now, its been about a month since ive nursed him. he will not latch on anymore, im thinking of getting the supplemental nursing system to get him to latch on, and maybe using a nipple shield as well.

hes having so much trouble with formula (hes on similac alimentum) so im going back to breastfeeding.
i hated having to stop in the 1st place but there was so much pain with him being tongue tied and i was cracking and bleeding all the time. i also got mastitis pretty bad, but im gunna give this another try. im tired of seeing my baby in pain from all of this.

  • If you're having trouble with him not latching, I think the SNS is a great way to go.

  • An SNS will be VERY helpful. Did they clip the tongue tie? It needs to be done, and he's not too young.
