Should I worry my 3 1/2 month old doesn't look at me when he's nursing

My son was born at 34 weeks. He is now about 3 1/2 months old. I am worried because he does not make eye contact with me when he's nursing, even if I start talking to him. My daughter, who is 4, made eye contact much better than he did. Sometimes he responds to my voice, sometimes he doesn't. Is this normal?

he does look and smile at me sometimes when i am changing him, but he doesn't when i go to pick him up from his crib.

  • I honestly can't remember mine paying attention to me for a LONG time while nursing. He was busy. **smile** I don't think you have anything to worry about.

  • Does he make eye contact with you at other times? Like when you're changing him?

  • u can not compare ur daugther to ur son the baby is just 3 and a half months old ,girl pickup a little faster than boys i have 3 boys still babie ,s twins 6 and a 11 year old start off slow and now my twins got the presidental reading award in kindergarten,in first grade make honour roll for a sec there i taught they were slow ,so let the baby be a baby and he will come around just enjoy him for the precious thing he is

  • I don't think it's a big deal. When my son was nursing he almost never looked at me. He was usually looking around the room. They get distracted or become interested in their surroundings. It's ok.

  • As long as you are getting some eye contact throughout the day and smiles, I think you're A-okay.
