Why was the vote system put into place?

a) to cut down on rude and nasty answers
b)for the Hell of it
c)for people to express who they do and do not like
d)for people to express who they do and do not agree with

Or any combination there if.

I am pretty sure the answer is a but it seems to be commonly used for c and d.

  • To increase page loads. This site is paid for by advertisers, who pay for ad space in relationship to the number of page loads generated. The voting is there to increase the number of page loads.

  • I don't think it was for "who" we don't like, but rather for what answers we do/don't like/agree with.

  • It's not whining. It's asking a question. If I was whining I would have stated what prompted the question.

  • I was under the impression it was established so that we could monitor ourselves better (rather than reporting everything), to cut down on the rude behavior we see on the site, as well as standing as some sort of credibility system. But since its being put into place it seems to have turned into some kind of game (crazy for credits, anyone?), and as a way to just be even pettier than before, with the downvotes.
