Buying a New Computer for next semester....Should I get a TV and use it as my monitor?

Sounds crazy but we currently don't have a TV
My SO wants one, sports, and I want a new computer because my laptop has been a trooper but after so many times of dropping it, it's time is over.
The TV we are looking at is $400 plus tax and the Desktop we are looking at is $700

so about $1100 plus software and tax

good compromise, or is there something I may be over-looking?

  • If you have the cash to do it and that's what you want, yeah I would go for it. There are some great sales going on right now too!
The only thing you might be over looking is a possible cable bill. Over time that can add up fast...

  • What about a laptop? That way you can take it with you to class.

  • We have 2 TVs but I never use either. I have always lived with a laptop. Some priced pretty reasonably from Radio Shack. You can hitch up to the Internet & watch old episodes of your favorite shows, or run a DVD. And it's very portable. That's the part I like best.

  • I've never taken my laptop to class, it sits at home. I'm a statistics major and the classes have computers in them and for the most part I just need a pencil, paper, and a calculator for my classes.

  • You can get a great laptop for around $500 and still hook it up to your TV if you want.

  • Before making a decision, I would read up on the product reviews.
