My 5 year old gets these smooth, red, splotches on her butt. They are painless. What could they be?

They don't hurt
They come and go
sometimes they are accompanied by little bumps like bugbites other times alone.

  • Do they itch? It could just be chafing. I would ask the Dr. next time you are there, but for now, you can apply some Hydrocortisone to the splotches.

  • She has eczema and this is not it. The splotches are silky smooth, no dryness, and not even slightly raised. It almost looks like a birthmark but it goes away! wierd..

  • I would take pictures of it and show them to her doctor. I say take pics because you know if you make an appointment they will go away before you get in to see the doc. One of those mysterious things that happens to all of us with kids.

  • That's a good idea sleepingbeautee. That's happened to my dd too many times and I can't figure out what it is.

  • My daughter has some spots like that on her lower back, but they haven't gone away yet. I think my daughter's are a reaction from a vaccine she had recently.

  • Hmmm...I really don't know. Never heard of anything like that. I agree with a PP, taking photos and showing your doc sounds like a good idea.
