Who does the bills in your house?

I do ours. When I was very ill a few years ago, he had no idea what had to be done and I could not help him. He has a coworker who recently lost his wife. The coworker is thoroughly overwhelmed and, too, has no clue how to do the bills.

Food for thought, if both don't participate, maybe it is a good idea to start.

  • We do them together ... we review them together, then I usually pay them, but we are both involved in the process. That way if anything ever happens, we both know where we stand on our bills, assets, and bank accounts.

  • I gather them and make a list for my husband. He goes into our BofA On-line bill pay and makes the payments.

  • I've always done them. When my husband died I didn't do anything for quite awhile, now it's play catch up on everything. Basically I just have all the bills taken directly from my bank account now. I'm really still not doing a whole lot of anything. Just take one day at a time.

  • I could do them, but he handles all of the finances. He makes the money, he makes sure the bills are paid. He asks me before making any extra purchases, though he knows better than me how much we have. We're on such a tight budget (paycheck to paycheck, pretty much), that I get anxious thinking about money anyway, so I'm relieved he takes care of it. In four years he hasn't had any issues, so I guess I can rely on him to do it. If it ever becomes a problem I can handle it, I'm just glad I don't have to. :)

  • I do them. But my husband is kept informed during the process and he knows where to find a copy of our budget. Plus we pay the bills a month ahead, so if something were to happen to me, he'd have a little bit of time to get everything together.

And I think that the best part of all, we're almost completely debt free- so there really isn't much to worry about anyway!
