What is an appropriate gift to give to your GF's parents?

My friend just sent me an im asking what he should get his new girlfriend's parents for Christmas. He's pretty serious about this woman and they have been together for only a month or two. I have no idea what to tell him.

  • What does he know about them? I always try to get something somewhat the dad into sports? What are his teams? What kinds of interests do they have?

If he really doesn't know much, he can go to Things Remembered and get a personalized throw blanket for each of them, or one with their last name on it, a photo album, take a nice bottle of wine if they drink, without knowing them it has to be somewhat generic. He should ask his girlfriend some questions about them.......

  • Maybe something nice for their home (if they are into candles or something along those lines) and a gift certificate to a nice restaurant

  • A bottle of wine, floral arrangement, something like a hostess gift would be appropriate; anything more than that might seem odd since they haven't been together very long.

  • Something nice that will be appreciated but not too over-done. If they drink coffee, a coffee-themed gift basket might be nice. If they drink alcohol, a nice bottle of wine won't go wrong. Even a fruit basket is thoughtful.

  • Hmmm what about a restaurant gift card, or tickets to the movies, or maybe a nice photo frame (and photo of GF in it?), flowers, a nice holiday candle, a coffee basket, bottle of wine, fruit basket....
