  • I was able to give my son cereal at 4 1/2 months only from a spoon! Never in his bottle! lots of pediatricians suggest even waiting to give cereal till 6 months now, but mine recommened it at the four and half mark. I will do the same thing with my daughter.

  • With my first two children I started at 4 months. It worked well for them, today my son turned four months old, and we plan to feed him his first bit of cereal this evening.

  • Your baby will let you know what they're ready for. You should be able to start w/ jarred fruits at about 4-5 months. When the bottle never seems to be enough- that's when it's time.

  • You should ask your Dr. Generally 4 mo. is appropriate for starting rice cereal, mixed with distilled H2O, breastmilk, or formula. Watch out for constipation since both cereals & formula contain iron (which isn't in breast milk). If this happens try distilled water, breast milk, or diluted juice (ex. apple juice). Then typically at 6 mo. their digestive systems are ready for other solids. You should start with veggies, then fruits, whole grains (oats, rice, etc. B4 wheat). Also, 1 food should be introduced at a time for at least 4 days before trying a new food to make sure your baby doesn't develop allergies. No nuts/seeds (esp. peanuts), strawberries, tomatoes, honey (am I missing anything?) before the 1st yr. or 2 (check w/ Dr. for ages). And no whole milk until okayed by your Dr. Allergies for little ones can be dangerous.
Good luck with your baby's nutrition & development =)
