How long should a 6 week old baby nap?

My baby is 6 weeks old and only gets up once during the night.. so blessed for that! During the day though I don't know how long I should let her nap for ? Should i wake her up if she's taking to long of a nap or do you let her sleep ?

  • Let her sleep as long as she wants to. She will wake up when she needs to eat.

  • Never wake a sleeping baby, especially when they are that young. Be prepared for your baby's sleeping habits to change quite a bit over the next few months. My DD started sleeping through the night at like 4.5 weeks, and I thought "I have it made!" until about 3.5 months when she started waking up again at night and still wakes up at least 1-2 times (she's 10 months). Right now, your baby is doing a lot of growing and adjusting to her new world. Let her sleep; she'll let you know when she needs something. Her sleep will start regulating more and more over the next fwe weeks and usually by 3 months, she'll start napping on a loose schedule.

  • I'm a strong beliver in feeding every 2 hours when they are that young. That's what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends.
