tongue swelling, cuts and pain with favoring to one side

my four year old has been keeping his tongue to one side for the past couple of days and when my fiancee looked in his mouth he said there are scratches on the top of it and swelling. my son's babysitter said he was holding his ear alot today and i have noticed him eating less and acting crabbier than usual. the first thing i thought of when i heard about him holding his ear was an ear infection[he has never had one before] but that wouldnt explain his tongue issue.

Any ideas? my son has autism and talking is enough of an issue without him talking funny because of his tongue. :(

thanks!

  • Is it possible that he could have put something sharp in his mouth that cut it and now it is infected. The infection could have spread to his ear?

  • Have him gargle with warm salt water if possible and take him to a doctor.
