Should I be worried?

My son will be 2 on Jan 3, but he doesn't talk much. He says quite a few individual words. He says things like this, up, that, sis, coat, bus, etc. but he's not putting words together. He often says things that aren't really words, his own baby talk version of words. People are starting to comment that he should be talking more. Should I be worried? What can I do?

  • Both of my boys were the same way. Soon, they were talking so much, you couldn't shut them up! This is a developmental thing that comes at different times for different children.

  • I wouldn't worry too much just yet. You might want try having more adult-like conversations with him. Reading to him might help him along. Interacting with other children might help too. If you are that concerned ask his dr.

  • if you respond to pointing and gestures, then thats why. Ignore his pointing and don't let him get away with not communicating. I didn't speak much until I was 3, but could speak in full sentences. All kids are different.

  • My son just turned two last week and I was concerned for he same thing. His doctor said that he should be able to say atleast 50-70 words, but understand at least 200.
