  • This is part of the reason why you don't give pets as presents. Especially if you aren't prepared for them, they ultimately get dumped.

Start off by taking the dog out every hour and staying outside with the dog. When you are outside say go pee, or time to potty or whatever...and wait until he does it. Then, praise him, good dog, good boy, good puppy. Then, repeat the next hour.

If you can't commit to the time it takes to train the dog, find someone who can....dogs are not disposable, they are living, breathing creatures who require time, money, energy and medical need to provide those things for the dog or find someone who can.

  • How old is dd, can she help you? Do you have a dog crate? I would start with that and the dog does need to go out every 1-2 hours. If you can't go outside, you might consider training the dog to use an indoors litterbox. Give the puppy a little string cheese as a reward when it goes potty. Keep the puppy on a lead inside the house so you can supervise him better. Make sure you have feed and water on a schedule too.

Here is an article on potty training your puppy.

    I hope that helps you!

  • The thing to do is to WATCH the beagle like a hawk, look out for signs that he is about to pee/poop. (sniffing the ground, moving in circles, their walking changes/squatting) and we would grab our pup and take him outside to toilet. After about 4 days he had mastered it. Just keep an eye on your dog, they'll demonstrate behaviours that will enable u to predict that he is about to go. Treat everytime he coomes in from outside after being to the toilet...dont ever treat or shout or make a fuss if he does it inside. Even if you have to clean up mess, don't get cross...the dog wont associate your anger with what he's done unless its immediate. Being angry could make him try to hide toileting from you...

You can also buy puppy training matts here in UK so i assume yiou can buy something similar in the US. These have a special scent engrained to encourage the dog to go to the toilet on them. ....cont

  • We use the matts when we go out...we just put one down for our puppy but he has only used it once for a b/m. How old is your dog?

You must be consistant in your methods when training a dog to do ANYTHING.
Make sure you take him to the toilet about half hr after each meal...if he doesnt go, just excercise with him out there, play, run etc...that'll get tings moving and when he goes give him loads of affection and a treat.
