Solid Foods (8 month old)

My daughter just turned 8 months old...she has been eating solids since 4.5 months.

For breakfast she has 2tbsp of Cream of Wheat mixed with a 1/3 of a jar of stage 2 fruits.
For lunch she eats 2oz of fruit and 2 oz of veggies (both stage2)
For dinner she has 2oz of fruits and 2oz of veggies (both stage2)

She drinks 20 oz bottles of formula a day and 2oz of juice plus sips of water.

I have recently started replacing some of her veggies with the real thing. She has had cooked carrots, cauliflower, peas, and sweet potatoes.

She also eats bits of meats (only chicken, turkey) cottage cheese, yogurt, tofu, beans.

Is she eating well? Any advice?

  • Sounds good but maybe want to increase the formula a bit. Closer to 25 oz a day. Keep in mind it is still the major source of nutrition until at least closer to 12 months.

  • She is eating well but remember that most of her nutrients still should come from the formula. Is she only drinking 20 oz a day?

  • Her Doctor said that the 20oz a day is fine because she is a very small child.

  • She needs to be drinking 32 oz of formula a day, minimum, especially if she's small. If she's filling up on solids and not wanting the formula, don't feed her as much. She doesn't need the juice or water either, they're also taking away from her formula intake. Your doc must be a quack if he/she is saying 20 oz a day is enough - she's not getting all the nutrients she needs to grow properly if she's not getting enough formula!

  • I would add more formula and cut back on the solids. She also doesnt need the juice. Other than that it looks fine.
