SAHMs and filing taxes

This will be the first year that i've had zero income ALL year, although last year there was barely any to report. I was just curious how you other SAHMs file? Does your husband list you as a dependent? I am not sure how this works.

  • I'm listed as a dependent with my husband filing as Married Filing Jointly.

  • We file married filing jointly. Biggest refund. I haven't worked for 6 years due to my health. Just because you don't have an income doesn't mean you can't file jointly, and don't let anyone try to tell you you can't. Sure you may be depending on him but you are still his equal.

  • We file jointly. If you find a GOOD taxman they will tell you the best way to file. H&R Block will not give you this information, at least they didn't give it to me. I walked out, what's the point of HIRING somebody when they can't tell you what's best. I would just do it myself then.

  • I've been a SAHM for about as long as we've been married (quit my job a couple months after our wedding). We've always filed "married filing jointly". I have always done our taxes. I even did both our taxes before we married.

    Hope this helps a bit.
